Mexican Fruit Salad

Ingredients

  • 3 cups melon chopped, mixed melon, cantaloupe, watermelon is a plus
  • 2 cups mango chopped
  • 2 cups strawberries chopped
  • 1 cup pineapple chopped
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chipotle powder or other chili pepper powder*

Instructions

  • Add the fruit to a mixing bowl and stir to disperse evenly.
  • Add the orange juice and lime juice, coating the fruit evenly.
  • Sprinkle in the sugar, salt, and chili powder, evenly coating the fruit.
  • Serve chilled.

Notes

Use a chili powder made from 100% hot pepper, not a generic chili powder as the generic variety is a seasoning containing other spices. Here are some recommended options:
- Ancho chili powder: Mild simmer, earthy
- Green jalapeño powder: Mild to Medium kick (depending on chili used), with a fresh taste (delicious with fruit, but hard to find. Make your own.)
- Chipotle powder: Medium kick, smoky
-Chile de Arbol powder: Medium kick, nutty
- Cayenne pepper: Strong medium kick, neutral flavor
