You never know when fast food goes spicy…
It’s really hit or miss. There’s a lot of over-promise and under-deliver, but color us impressed with McDonalds jalapeño burger, the jalapeño double. For a fast food burger, it delivers a surprising amount of spicy flavor and a well-balanced overall taste.
In the mix: a traditional McDonalds bun, two beef patties, topped with jalapeño pepper (sliced and fried), a white cheddar slice and McDonald’s classic ranch sauce. There’s a good helping of jalapeño peppers on the burger, and they offer just enough spice to be fun to eat while remaining appropriate for mass appeal. Plus, the crispy jalapeños mixed with the fresh sliced chilies adds the twist of a cool little crunch.
The ranch dressing adds a sweet tang that pairs well with the chili bite. The cheddar? Well, not much of an overall taste impact, but it adds a nice soft texture that mixes well with the crunchiness of this burger.
Beyond that, McDonalds doesn’t load up this burger with lots of “extras” like lettuce and tomato, and that’s a good thing. It’s a simple recipe that lets the chili, burger, and dressing really shine. In fact, McDonalds jalapeño burger may now be our favorite item on the menu. Of course, we are biased to spicy, but if you love jalapeño poppers, you’ll love this burger. It’s A LOT like eating a giant jalapeño popper.
If you eat fast food and like spicy, this is a burger worth giving a shot. At $2 this is a nice step up from a Dollar Menu cheese burger.
