Cholula Hot Sauce is one of the few Mexican hot sauces that are popular in the US. It is made in Chapala, Mexico from a recipe handed down for three generations of the Harrison family. The Harrisons were the first to make the sauce, which became popular in their home state of Jalisco and then throughout Mexico. The Cholula brand has since been acquired by Jose Cuervo.

Cholula Hot Sauce is popular among pepper fans who want a flavorful Mexican-style sauce with a mild heat, but is it good for you? Below, we will take a closer look at the nutritional value and benefits of this hot sauce.

It has a moderate amount of sodium

A diet that contains too much salt can result in high blood pressure and heart disease.

With 110 mg of sodium, Cholula Hot Sauce is not as low in sodium as some other hot sauces on the market. Its 11 mg is 5 percent of your recommended daily intake of sodium. In comparison, Tabasco Original Red Sauce has 35 mg of sodium, which is only about 2 percent of your recommended sodium intake. However, other popular hot sauces like Frank’s RedHot and Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce contain much more. Frank’s RedHot has 190 mg while Louisiana has 240 mg.

You should be able to consume Cholula Hot Sauce in moderation with none of the negative health effects that come with a high salt intake.

It is fat free

Cholula Hot Sauce has no saturated fat and no trans-fat. This means that it can be a beneficial addition to your diet if you are trying to lose weight. In addition, both of types fat can increase your risk of heart disease. The fact that Cholula does not contain them makes it a great way add flavor to food without affecting heart health. Cholula is a great way to enhance flavors without significantly increasing your risk of developing heart disease.

It is sugar free

Because Cholula Hot Sauce has no sugar, it does not cause reactive hypoglycemia or spikes in blood sugar. The absence of an effect on blood sugar means that eating Cholula Hot Sauce does not increase your risk of type 2 diabetes.

It is a low-calorie condiment

Because it contains no fats or sugar, a serving of Cholula Hot Sauce has no calories. This means that you will not gain any weight by eating it.

The peppers in Cholula Hot Sauce (chile de àrbol and pequin chilies) do contain nutrients, but are too diluted by the other ingredients to consider it a good source of them.
