Chipotle Pumpkin Seeds

Chipotle Pumpkin Seeds

Smoky snacking…

Pumpkins are the vegetable gift that keeps on giving. Not only do you have the delicious pumpkin flesh to partake in for spicy pumpkin pies, you also have those fresh pumpkin seeds that are oh so good for snacking. You can spice up pumpkin seeds in many ways, but one of our faves is via chipotle powder. Roasted chipotle pumpkin seeds have that earthy flavor you expect. Plus that chipotle pepper provides a tasty hint of smokiness along with a very eatable medium heat.

If you don’t have chipotle powder around the house, you can purchase some from our spicery. Or you can opt for using cayenne powder. See a good spicy pumpkin seeds recipe here that will serve. It won’t provide the smokiness, but it doubles down on the spiciness due to the extra heat of cayenne pepper.

jalapeño cheddar popcorn

Jalapeño Cheddar Popcorn

A snack time favorite turned up a notch…

Mixing sharp cheddar flavor with bright and spicy jalapeño pepper is a great way to boost the presence of a snack time favorite. Jalapeño cheddar popcorn won’t overwhelm you on heat (unless you want it to), so this is still a pretty family-friendly cheese popcorn option for movie night or parties. Jalapeño powder may be difficult to buy at your local grocer, but we offer it at our spicery so get ready to add this delicious green powder to your spice rack.

Of course, you can add additional jalapeño powder if you want to boost up that spiciness (or more cheddar cheese powder for some more sharpness), but we let the choice be yours here. If you like this recipe, be sure to check out some of our other spicy popcorn recipes that’ll totally elevate your snack game.

Spicy Peanut Butter Cookies

Spicy Peanut Butter Cookies

Nutty and naughty…

For those that love peanut butter (who’s not raising their hand?), get ready for a cookie evolution. Introducing cayenne pepper to the ever-popular peanut butter cookie is sure to make your taste buds scream and shout. It’s earth and fire, sweet and spice, nutty and naughty all in one.

But cayenne pepper is only one direction you can turn. This is one versatile cookie when it comes to spicy seasonings. You could opt for the extreme – something even fiercer (like habanero powder). Or turn things down a notch or three while adding a hint of smoke (with chipotle or ancho powders). They all work and each brings its own twist to this cookie favorite. Feel free to experiment as the traditional peanut butter cookie is a great canvas from which to play.

Jalapeño Popcorn

Adding a fresh spicy flavor to your snack food fave…

Popcorn is a perfect snack for bringing “spicy” to life. It’s tasty but rather neutral in flavor, making it a terrific culinary base by which to play with peppers, for both their heat and overall flavor. For instance, jalapeño popcorn uses fresh jalapeños to bring a spicy fresh flavor to the olive oil used to cook the popcorn. We like it, too, with a little sprinkle of jalapeño powder to add a little extra spicy brightness to the bowl.

spicy granola

Spicy Granola

Hello smoky sizzle…

Granola is one of those perfect “pick me up” foods – whether as a morning breakfast or afternoon snack it gives you a nice boost of energy (and it tastes pretty good too!). You’ll find many recipes for spiced granola, but spicy granola? Well that’s another story. We like our granola with a little sizzle…in fact smoky sizzle in this recipe.

The heat comes from a mix of smoked paprika and cayenne pepper powder. You can control the smoke to heat levels by adjusting the amounts in the recipe according to what you want. Less smoke, more heat? Lower the smoked paprika, increase the cayenne. The spiciness makes this more a snacking granola than a breakfast option (but hey – we certainly don’t judge – we reach for heat at breakfast all the time).

Spicy Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies

Chocolate (times two) meets smoky chipotle pepper…

You can’t go wrong with rich chocolatey cookies with a hint of smoky spiciness. That’s the premise behind these spicy Mexican hot chocolate cookies. Cocoa powder and chocolate chips provide a sweet foil to smoky chipotle powder and fiery cayenne pepper. It’s a mouth explosion of earthy sweet and a wisp of smoke and heat.

As an extra touch try dusting these cookies with a little touch of chipotle powder before serving. Just a light dusting provides a more immediate smoky heat experience.

Spicy Apple Chips

Spicy Apple Chips

A perfect healthy on-the-go spicy snack…

Fruity sweet, crisp, and spicy – spicy apple chips are a real healthy treat, especially if you’re the “on the go” type.Put a handful into a ziploc bag and go! They are perfect for lunches and afternoon snacks.

The recipe mixes cinnamon and cayenne pepper powder. It’s a perfect pairing in our book – earthy sweet and spicy, without being over-spiced to the point where the heat is secondary. Of course, feel free to experiment with additional spices, too. A touch of nutmeg or allspice can be a great adaptation to the base recipe.
